Rescued Bait Pit Bull Headed To Hollywood For Canine Hero Competition After losing Her Ear

Pit Bulls always seem to find themselves in the media one way or another. An abused pit bull was found severely injured hanging on to life in Miami. At first sight, it was clear that she was a victim of a dog fighting ring.

Her ear was in shreds, nearly nothing was left besides a few strings of flesh that was infected. Lucky for her good Samaritans, found her and called for help. She was later adopted on July 1, 2017.

Her new family named her Abigail, and now they are headed across the United States to Hollywood!

Why are they headed to Hollywood you ask?

Well the American-Humane Hero Dog Awards is being held at the Beverly Hilton September 16, 2017. Abigail was a finalist! Known to most as "The pit bull who wears bonnets to cover her missing right ear."

Abigail plans on arriving a few days early with her humans in tow, so they can do some site seeing, before attending the black-tie affair.

The bonnet wearing pit bull with but going up against six other finalists. Which she bares similar stories with. Each dog has beat the odds and survived horrendous events.

The dogs are all winners, they represent bravery, heroism and affection. They are being placed in the spot light to help bring light to such a dark situation. They will be representing dog rights for all dogs across the country.

"She will walk the red carpet," Abigail's adopted mother, Megan Contreras, said of the competition.

Red Carpet goers always wear the latest fashion, with the hottest evening gowns. Abigail the pit bull will be arriving in style just like the big girls. She won't be rolling in a gown but she will be sporting a beautiful tutu.

September 16th the winner will be announced at Gala. The votes from the public will be announced at a later date. What is a completion without judges? NASCAR fame and dog lover Blake Koch will be attending and judging the event. There will be a full panel of dog lovers in attendance.

Just how did Abigail get involved in this completion? Well that's all thinks to the pit bull's rescuer. Victoria Frazier, knew Abigail would make the perfect candidate for the completion. So, she entered her at the start of the year. Frazier also runs a Miami based rescue by the name of Fur Ever Rescue in Lehigh Acres.

What is the point of the American-Humane Hero Dog Awards?

It's to showcase and give recognition to dogs that overcome hurdles that life so brutally throws at them. Dogs that were once "Ordinary that go on to do Extraordinary things," according to the American Humane Association's website for the competition.

This completion isn't just limited to rescue survivors. But open to dogs that have saved lives and the ones that make our lives easier to live. You will see law enforcement dogs, therapy dogs and more. There are seven categories with one finalist in each.

Abigail the pit bull was placed in the "emerging hero" category. She has already won the top spot. She won a grand prize of $2,500 for her charity, known as the Dogs on Deployment. The charity comes to the aid of U.S service people, helping place their dogs into loving homes while they are deployed.

If Abigail is able to beat all 7 of the category winners she will be able to take home the $5,000 prize for her charity.

Both of Abigail's parents work in law enforcement. They were over 100 applications submitted for Abigail. It took over eight months for the pit bull to recover from her wounds and to be placed.

Frazier, Abigail's rescuer first spotted pictures of her with bloody bandages and dirt caked all over her. On a Miami website where she was first brought in by volunteers at the shelter.

Frazier runs her own rescue and knew she had to have the pit bull. Frazier called her husband, to pick her from the shelter on his way home. The first place Abigail went was to Frazier's trusted Vet Dr. Thomas Jackson. Jackson, determined that the pit bull was likely a bait dog left to die on the streets after receiving fatal wounds.

Frazier and Abigail's mother have been planning for the Hollywood trip for some time. They have teamed up to make line of bonnets for Abigail to wear for her 4-day trip!

What sparked the Bonnets you may be asking?

Well by now you are fully aware that Abigail lost her right ear. After all the surgeries, Abigail started to receive bonnets from supports and fans. The bonnets were meant to help protect Abigail's ear while she healed. But She quickly became the bonnet wearing pit bull and made it a fashion statement.

Abigail and her family, have been blessed with such positive vibes through all the hardships.

Abigail's story will unfold on the big screen thanks to a California producer that came to the pit bulls home for several weeks to film, her story. The video tribute will be shown at the gala, each and every dog in the competition will have their very own film.

Abigail might get a little nervous but she will be okay, because 11 of her close friends and rescuers will be with her at the event. They are going to accompany Abigail around Hollywood, so she can get some site seeing in.

Her fans will also be able to meet her, between 2-5pm Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the World of Beer, near the Gulf Coast Town Center in South Fort Myers.

The pit bull beat the odds, and has been busy ever since. She has been training to be a therapy dog, alongside her sibling that was also rescued.

Abigail the pit bull has made a huge impact on the world so far and she hasn't even got started. Her thousands of fans often send her letters and emails. One woman wrote that Abigail brings a smile to her autistic daughter's face, her daughter is non-verbal. The woman can't help but tear up when she sees how happy Abigail makes her.

Another fan wrote Abigail, stating that her pictures help her fight depression each day. Abigail the bonnet wearing pit bull is a true hero, she has touched so many lives in such a short time. She will continue to touch many more, even if humans were the cause of all her trauma she can't help but greet each and every one with a smile.
